Ali Smith's Winter - Reading Through the Seasons
Join us for our winter reading group focused on reading and discussing Ali Smith's Winter.
This event is the second in our new year-round literary journey through Ali Smith’s Seasonal Quartet books, hosted by our booksellers at Tills & Company bookshop in Portobello, Edinburgh. The event will be followed by three future book groups on her works Spring (in April 2025), Summer (in July 2025), and finally ending with Companion Piece (in October 2025).
Ali Smith's Seasonal Quartet books were a publishing experiment, where the books, written quickly over a single year, were put into print only weeks after the manuscripts were finished. Winter, the second in the series, is as harsh a novel as its season, exploring wintery folk tale set against a family Christmas gathering through which Smith weaves an intricate, haunted tale.
Join us at Tills & Company, 6:30pm-8:00 on 31st Jaunary 2025 as we live and read through every season accompanied by Ali Smith’s sharp commentary on the world we live in today, full of brilliant word play and insightful reflections on life and nature as they move and change through time and seasons.
Note on ticketing:
Standard Tickets to come along are £5.
There are a limited number of concession tickets available as well. There is no evidence needed for a concession. If you feel you would struggle to cover the full price, but want to take part in the event, please feel free to pay the concession price.
