The Lord of the Rings, by J. R. R. Tolkien - First Editions from 1954-55, 2/1/1 Impressions.
A First Edition set of Tolkien’s masterpiece, The Lord of the Rings. The Fellowship of the Ring is in the 2nd Impression (1954), and the Two Towers and Return of the King are 1st Impressions (1954 and 1955 respectively). These early copies are exceedingly rare with their original, entirely unrestored dust jackets.
Internally the books are fine. Dust jackets are good condition, with some paper loss to extremities, fading and shelf wear. The dust jackets of book 1 and book 3 have detached at the spine, but all parts are present. Please review the condition carefully in our photographs.
This epic narrative, set in the mythical world of Middle-earth, is renowned for its intricate world-building, richly developed languages, and complex themes of heroism, power, and the struggle against evil. The series, blending myth, legend, and Tolkien's own imaginative creations, has had a profound and lasting impact on the fantasy genre and popular culture.
Such early Tolkien First Edition sets are highly collectable and scarce with their jackets. The 2nd Impression of The Fellowship of the Rings had a print run of approximately 2,500 copies, and the 1st Impression of The Two Towers only 3,500 copies, making these an exciting addition to any serious Tolkien collection.
