P. Virgilii Maronis Opera, by Virgil. 1690, Second Edition of the Delphin edition.

£580.00

This second edition of the Delphin edition of P. Virgilii Maronis Opera, published in 1690, is a distinguished scholarly work featuring the annotations and interpretations of Charles Ruaeus, a Jesuit scholar. Commissioned by the order of the Christian King for the use of the ‘Serene Dauphin’, this edition is part of the renowned "Delphin Classics" series, designed to provide a comprehensive and accessible guide to classical texts.

The volume includes the complete works of Publius Vergilius Maro (Virgil), the eminent Roman poet known for his epic Aeneid, as well as the Eclogues and Georgics. Ruaeus’s annotations offer detailed explanations and insights, making this a valuable resource for understanding Virgil’s language, themes, and historical context.

This is a slightly later second edition of the text, published in 1690. Bound in full vellum, the binding is holding firm, but cracking and pulling away slightly. The pages, while showing the expected signs of age, are well preserved.
