War and Peace, by Tolstoï
A beautiful First British edition of one of Tolstoy’s most significant work.
A near very good set. Each book has a lean to it, and each has rubbed spine ends and shelf wear to edges, commensurate with age. Vol 1 is most affected by wear, with the netting showing for front board, and a split along the outside of the spine. Vol 2 has a slight crack to spine hinges. Vols 3 and 4 holding firm. Foxing to all end papers, slight tanning to internal pages throughout but for the most part, the pages are clear. Name of owner written in top right corner of front endpaper in each book ('Kathleen Hayward Jan. 15. 1891).
A four set volume with original navy blue cloth boards and gilt lettering to front and spine. pp. 359 (1) 392 (2) 424 (3) and 408 (4).
